These bulbs are slightly taller then regular bulbs, but make a good drop in upgrade for nearly all lamps. My dimming switch will make regular bulbs hum at the lowest setting, the LED bulb is no exception. The sound isn't very loud at all. With a radio or TV on its not an issue. The light emitted is very close to traditional bulbs, which is a plus over CCFL. Despite the split design of the bulb, the light fills the area evenly with ambient light.
